Leaburg Fish Hatchery

We took a drive this afternoon to get out of the house for a bit and we found ourselves at the Leaburg Fish Hatchery.  We actually pulled off the road to stretch our legs, but the hatchery ended up being our destination for the day.  There were dozens of “holding tanks” containing trout of varying sizes/ages.  The YouTube video is of one particular tank where we spent the most time.  It was filled with hundreds of Rainbow Trout at least 1 foot long and the fish would follow you as you walked up and down the side of their tank.  Us old folks and dogs enjoyed sitting in the sun (mid-70’s today) while Grant was enthralled watching the fish swarm and jump.  On our way back to the van, we stumbled upon the “viewing pond” where ODFW had their trophy fish.  There were several large trout and a few sturgeon swimming in a more natural environment.  They even had a little vending machine to purchase pellets to feed to the fish.  We had a very fun and unexpected trip!
