Nokia Morph

Posted: February 26, 2008 by jgrantmarshall in Uncategorized

Have you heard of this?  It is Nokia’s new concept phone which they claim will be available within about 7 years.  Called the Morph, it is made with nanotechnology and is chock full of previously unheard of features.  Some of these features include: bendable, self cleaning, can change surface to user’s whim… and many other etc’s.  Check out the YouTube video for a better demo than my pathetic description.

Cool?

Goodman Creek Hike

With the nice weather this week, I have been hearing the call of the trail.  Luckily, the weather held on Saturday so Grant and I headed for the hills.  We took the opportunity to do some Geocaching, too, while we were out.  The hike followed what I assume is Goodman Creek.  We walked about 2 miles back in and were treated to a beautiful waterfall.  Near the waterfall, we found a sunny patch to eat our snacks before heading back.  We were going to drive to a couple more Geocaches but were thwarted by both snow and downed trees.  This was a fun area that I will be certain to visit again in the Spring!

2008 Eugene Microbrew Fest

Posted: February 11, 2008 by jgrantmarshall in Uncategorized

Natalie and I celebrated an adults night out last Saturday with a high school buddy and his wife (and her cousin and his significant other (not sure if she was girlfriend or wife) (details that have been forgotten due to alcohol consumption… apologies)).  We went to the 2008 Microbrew Festival at the Lane County Fairgrounds, organized by KLCC.  Below is the list of available brews/breweries from the KLCC.org site.

Wow!  I was like a kid in the candy store!  My personal favorite was the Chili Beer from Calapooia in Albany, OR (website calapooiabrewing.com is down at the time of this post).  Nobody else in our group seemed to like it as much as I did… but then again, I didn’t seem to like what they liked either.  Another interesting beer was a vanilla porter from Laurelwood in Portland.

I am normally not really a beer snob but this was a fun treat to experience the creativity in truly crafting a beer.

The experience was made even richer for me because of a recent exposure to homebrewing with my 2 brothers-in-law.  Being able to see/smell/taste the various brewing components has allowed me to appreciate the intricacies a bit more.  I realize that that really makes me sound like a beer snob, but I whole-heartedly agree with Ben Franklin when he said, “Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.”

Also adding to the ambiance, I mean besides the typical Eugene granola crowd or the guy with a ZZ Top beard wearing glitter, was a live band.  The group was called Poor Man’s Whiskey and hailed from the CA Bay Area.  They were kind of a rock n roll bluegrass band.  Interesting sound and a perfect mesh for the beer fest.

Allie’s Crib

Posted: February 7, 2008 by jgrantmarshall in baby, family

Today’s post, is a copy and paste from Natalie’s email earlier in the week.  I finished painting the room a couple of weekends ago and she put up the border.  She, of course, did the rest of the decorating!

Well, I found a crib on Craigslist and talked J into driving back into Eugene for the second time today, after the Superbowl, of course. 🙂  This after shopping at (I kid you not…) every store in Eugene/Springfield and unable to locate a white crib under $300.  We got it all set up, disinfected (probably not necessary, but you know…), and set up with the crib set.  Here are a few pictures! 😉 ~Natalie

I put a few pics up in my Flickr gallery.

360’s 360

Posted: February 6, 2008 by jgrantmarshall in xbox

Today my Xbox 360 made it back home from McAllen, TX!  I unpacked it, plugged everything in… and it worked!  For the trouble (and the missed time), MS sent a 1 month Live subscription in the box, too.  I was so happy to see green lights on the front!

Grant and I played Lego Star Wars all evening.
