Yumm Bowls

Here, in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, there are a chain of restaurants called Cafe Yumm!  If you have never heard of them, they serve an all organic bowl of nutritional goodness featuring beans and rice and at the heart of it is a concoction of ingredients collectively called “Yumm Sauce”.  It is an awesome choice for lunch, as opposed to greasy fast food, since I am now trying to watch what I eat a little better.

The other GREAT thing about Cafe Yumm is that the ingredients are simple enough to be reproduced at home and last week, we did so.  Since it was a hit at my house, I wanted to share with you how to make Yumm Bowls at your house!

The first thing we did was to throw some brown rice into the rice cooker.  Not sure why, but brown rice is supposed to be better (nutritionally) for you.  Next, we opened a can (hehehe) of black beans and nuked them.  The next topping is grated cheddar cheese.  Next, for me, comes a couple-few tablespoons of Yumm Sauce.  If you are blessed to live near Track Town USA, Eugene, then getting saucy is as easy as stopping by Cafe Yumm and buying a jar of the stuff.  However, if you are a DIYer, you can make your own Yumm Sauce by following the recipe, here.  Finally, we finished our bowls with toppings, such as: fresh homemade salsa, lowfat sour cream, sliced black olives and avocado wedges.

Yum, Baby, very yum!
